What is Cryolipolysis / Fat Freezing?
Cryolipolysis treatment is also known as fat freezing and cryolipo. This treatment uses advanced cooling technology which results in localised fat death and removal from your body. Clinical trials have confirmed that fat cells are killed when placed in certain cold conditions. This is because fat cells crystallise when exposed to cold at certain temperatures for certain periods. Fat freezing is targeted by breaking down only the fat cells whilst not impacting all the other tissue like the skin, muscle and nerve fibres in the area that is being frozen. This is because they freeze at a much lower temperature than fat cells so are not effected by the temperatures we use.
Does Cryolipolysis / Fat Freezing really work?
Yes! There are many trials, celebrity reviews, doctor reviews and TV features that support the effectiveness of fat freezing cryolipo.
It is accepted among doctors and surgeons as one of the most effective non-invasive (no surgery) fat loss solutions, capable of losses between 20-45% of fat cells after a single cryolipo session.
How does Fat Freezing / Cryolipolysis work?
A cryolipo cup is placed on the selected area. The area is then cooled to a precise temperature for a pre defined period which is between 45 and 60 minutes depending on the fat thickness measured and other conditions.
As the fat cells in that area are cooled the fat cells crystallise and as a result no longer function in their usual way and breakdown using a process called Apoptosis via the bodies natural functions.
This process then results in the elimination of the fat cells without damage to the surrounding area, nerves or tissues, although it should be noted that there are some times some redness and bruising after a sessions.
What will Cryolipolysis feel like? Does it hurt?
Cryolipo is largely pain free and comfortable, although some do report light bruising in the days after treatment.
A freeze membrane is put in place to protect the skin. The hand piece being applied then sucks the area up, some people report pulling on the skin but it is not painful.
Once they are over the initial sensation we often have clients become so relaxed that they doze off during the treatment process.
What happens to the Fat after Cryolipolysis? Are there side effects?
Following cryolipo fat cells die and are removed from the body via natural processes. Over the following weeks & months as the fat breakdown process occurs and fat is removed from the body completely. How quickly this happens & the extent of the result varies upon the individual and the conditions such as amount of fat and water intake in the days and weeks after treatment. We give full after care advice to ensure you are able to achieve the maximum benefits.
One of the main benefits of Cryolipolysis fat freezing is there are extremely rarely any side effects at all. There is no recovery period, or downtime needed following a treatment. Your skin will feel cold and partially numb in the area treated, but will return quickly to its normal temperature, usually within an hour or so of the treatment.
Peoples skin is often red and feels a little sore immediately after the treatment and there may a small amount be localised bruising, but it is very rare to have extended redness or bruising afterwards, if there is any bruising its normally very light and gone after a week or so. You should be able to resume normal daily activities without discomfort immediately after the session. Liposuction requires many weeks of down time and discomfort, as this is not the case with cryolipo, which is one of the main benefits of having this procedure.
How long does a Cryolipolysis session it take?
Each session is between 40 and 60 minutes per area, depending on the thickness of the fat in that area. Your cryolipo will be tailored to your individual requirements which are agreed during the consultation, usually we advise clients to allow up to 60 minutes per area treated – so 3 areas would be up to 180 minutes.
What results will I have follow Cryolipolysis? How long until I notice results?
Studies have shown reduction of fat cells is between 20% to 45%. Our experience and past results show that those that follow the aftercare advice will get the best results from the treatment process. Exact results cannot be guaranteed and will vary on the individual scenario as are subject to the thickness of the fat and the lifestyle maintained after your treatment session with us.
Length of time before results are seen depend on a number of variables such as the fat thickness in the area treated. Although 12 weeks is the estimated time to see the maximum result we have had clients report good results after 2-4 weeks. Studies and clinical trials up to have shown that 9 out of 10 people saw a reduction in the treated area when comparing measurements 12 weeks after they underwent the Cryolipolysis process.
Are the results permanent or will the fat come back?
Once destroyed fat cells leave the body they will not come back in that area assuming you maintain a healthy lifestyle and do not have excessive fat intake.
Who is an ideal candidate to have Cryolpolysis?
We find the best candidates are those who want to reduce localised fat areas but who are not generally over weight. These tend to be areas that they find stubborn to diet and exercise that no matter how much exercise or dieting is done just will not reduce.
Although most people are suitable for cryolipo treatments it should not be seen as an overall weight loss solution or way to skip a healthy lifestyle. Some people are not suitable for medical reasons and the ideal candidate is within or quite near their ideal body weight range (BMI). It have been proven people in this group will see the best results. We have also found that it can also be an excellent additional motivation aid.
